SCHOOL VISITS<\/h1>\n

Courtney visited Linville-Edom and Elton Elementary schools as part of the VAASL Shenandoah Valley Young Author Celebration. The event was a “resounding success” with one participant describing it as “the best author yet” <\/span><\/p>\n

MENTORSHIPS<\/h1>\n

I’m excited to start a new program to mentor aspiring author\/illustrators!<\/p>\n

It consists of a three month one on one program<\/strong> with a zoom meeting every two weeks to discuss assignments, craft and other aspects of the picture book business as well as email communication.<\/p>\n

 Assignments and discussions will be tailored to the individual needs of the student. <\/p>\n

This class is great for<\/strong> : <\/p>\n

-illustrators who want to write their own stories<\/p>\n

-beginning illustrators who wish to build their portfolio<\/p>\n

-Aspiring author\/illustrators getting projects ready to submit to agents and\/or editors<\/p>\n

-author\/illustrators working on a project and would like extensive revision feedback. <\/p>\n

You will need:<\/strong><\/p>\n

-At least one written draft of a story, preferably several. <\/strong><\/p>\n

-Examples of your current illustrations<\/p>\n

-A willingness to complete assignments <\/p>\n

-Some technical ability to share artwork. (scanner and upload capability) <\/p>\n

Price: $375 for a limited time (a two part payment plan is available) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Fall 2025 workshops are full, Winter workshops will start in January. Registration will open in mid-November\/December.<\/p>\n

WORKSHOPS<\/h1>\n

I have taught art and writing workshops at The Highlights Foundation<\/a> <\/span>and local SCBWI Conferences for adults interested in pursuing writing and\/or illustrating for children.  I can present lectures about my career path (and inspiring others), How to Leave room for your Illustrator, Revision, and more! I also love leading hands on creative exercises to stretch creativity and inspire new ideas that work for writers and illustrators. <\/p>\n

For children, I have led week long and hour long workshops at Gaithersburg Book Festival, schools and after school programs, where students tackle aspects of writing and illustrating. I’m happy to work with you to create a workshop that fits into your schedule and addresses student’s talents and  interest in art, writing or both!  <\/p>\n
