Courtney offers local art camps during the summer! From creating a handmade picture book based on fairy tales to spending a week immersed in illustration, the camps are based on expanding creativity and encouraging your child to create bigger, brighter more unique work.

Classes for Summer 2013

Be the Illustrator- Half Day

Ever wonder what it's like to get a story assignment and create an illustration under deadline? Ever wonder how an illustrator decides what to draw or paint? Every day we will create an original illustration for a short story, poem or a passage from a book. Inspiration will come from a different illustrator and a different medium each day. Creativity will be the number one lesson but students will also learn to choose the main idea or theme from a story and how color, compostion and medium effect the tone of a piece of art.  

$170.00 per session, $20 material fee.

For rising 2nd-5th graders. July 15-19th , 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at Commonwealth Baptist Church, 700 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, VA

Author/Illustrator Camp – Now Full Day! 

Does your rising 2nd-5th grader love to make up stories and draw? Do you find half-finished books all over your house? If so, this is the summer camp for your child! In a week we will create a handcrafted, bound and illustrated picture book where the children are encouraged to put a new spin on a classic story. Individuality and creativity are our number one goals but along the way there will also be lessons in goal setting, cause & effect and sequential narration. Class size is limited for individual attention. Additional dates may be added if needed.

$300.00 per session, $25 material fee.

For rising 2nd-5th graders. July 22nd-26th, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm at Commonwealth Baptist Church, 700 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, VA
