I am no longer just an aspiring author or illustrator. As of yesterday, I am officially contracted to publish my first picture book with Flashlight Press! I will be their first author who also illustrates. They publish a handful of super quality, award winning picture books each year and I am incredibly honored that they have chosen to publish one of my books. The book is the very first PB I wrote about a grumpy little girl. This is no case of overnight success though. I have been in contact with Flashlight’s editor, Shari Dash Greenspan for five years! So, the moral of my story is hang in there, keep working and put your dreams out into the world! I will keep you updated and go into more detail with the publication story later. For now, all I can say is WOOOOOOOOTTTTTTT!

My debut picture book — “The Busy Life of Ernestine Buckmeister” (illustrated Suzanne Beaky) will also be coming out with Flashlight Press in September (review copies available in May). But Courtney…one more thing…your book title. Oh no! My daughter is a Maja (pronounced Maya) and she’s anything but grumpy. She’s a pure delight. Her Mama, on the otherhand, sometimes holds that title
